Summary

Niccolo Polo, father of Marco, will finally reveal the story he has kept secret all his life - the story of Altair, one of the brotherhood's most extraordinary Assassins。

Altair embarks on a formidable mission - one that takes him throughout the Holy Land and shows him the true meaning of the Assassin's Creed。 To demonstrate his commitment, Altair must defeat nine deadly enemies, including Templar leader, Robert de Sable。 Altair's life story is told here for the first time: a journey that will change the course of history; his ongoing battle with the Templar conspiracy; a family life that is as tragic as it is shocking。

Enjoyed the second half of the book much more than the first。 This is probably because I am reading the book after playing the video game and already knew what was going to happen。 In the end, I enjoyed the read and learning more about Altair。

I remember devouring these Assassin's Creed books when I was younger, trying to learn any new scrap about the world and the lore that Bowden offered up。 Alas, a recent reread, out of curiosity more than anything, has led me to believe that they were nowhere near as good as I remembered。 Or maybe it was just this one that was bad。 Or maybe the fact the Assassin's Creed series just doesn't interest me as it used to。 But I'm not sure who this book is for。 This book retells, point for point, the ent I remember devouring these Assassin's Creed books when I was younger, trying to learn any new scrap about the world and the lore that Bowden offered up。 Alas, a recent reread, out of curiosity more than anything, has led me to believe that they were nowhere near as good as I remembered。 Or maybe it was just this one that was bad。 Or maybe the fact the Assassin's Creed series just doesn't interest me as it used to。 But I'm not sure who this book is for。 This book retells, point for point, the entire plot of Assassin's Creed 1 and the PSP game Assassin's Creed Bloodlines, both of which I have played。 These are not stories that translate well to the written medium, and Bowden's attempts at livening them up read lazily and poorly。 He repeats phrases noticeably, and does a disappointing job trying to inject narrative where there really is none。 There are little interjections of new plot, but they actually detract from Altaïr's story rather than add to it。 Not only this, but Al Mualim's character and the character of the Brotherhood is damaged by these "revelations"。 It's just nowhere near as good as I remembered。 It reads like Bowden was phoning it in。 Maybe he'd never played this game before and just had the script to go off, and tried to inject some lazy pathos and backstory into Altaïr's character? Basically, Assassin's Creed 1 is a game that should not be adapted to the written format, and Bowden doesn't even really seem to try。 Worth avoiding, unless you're some die-hard megafan。 Then again, who else are these books for? 。。。more

Did you play the first Assassin's Creed game? It's basically that but without the boring stuff with Desmond。 So it's enjoyable with well described action scenes。 Did you play the first Assassin's Creed game?

Action packed, the story is unique and different from the one in the original assassins creed。 i feel like Oliver Bowen played his cards right on this one

Enjoyable listen in my exploration of the AC world, having played some of the more recent games。 Interesting flashback device to tell the tale of a key assassin - legendary。

Awesome :) Bowden managed to weave a compelling narrative that included references to the intricate mechanics of the game without drawing glaring attention to it。 I'm looking forwards to reading the rest of the books!

4 stars。 Oh my god。 Although The Secret Crusade was fantastic, that epilogue really made reading this book worth it。 Bowden's ability in portraying the conflicting philosophies and plight of Altaïr's hubris as he journeys from Novice to Master Assassin was beautiful。 It made me feel as if I were growing and learning alongside him; from his brash and impulsive desire to arrogantly prove his mastery over his brothers, to being inquisitive of the world around him, having an open spirit to challenge 4 stars。 Oh my god。 Although The Secret Crusade was fantastic, that epilogue really made reading this book worth it。 Bowden's ability in portraying the conflicting philosophies and plight of Altaïr's hubris as he journeys from Novice to Master Assassin was beautiful。 It made me feel as if I were growing and learning alongside him; from his brash and impulsive desire to arrogantly prove his mastery over his brothers, to being inquisitive of the world around him, having an open spirit to challenge the status quo and break the chain of dogmatic teachings (and that's just the tip of the iceberg!)。 Altaïr ascended from a life riddled with mistakes, resentment and unanswered questions, and matured into a man who appreciated the gift of hindsight, the power of friendship, curiosity and knowledge。 I think we can all learn from Master Assassin Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad。"I want to meet the best minds, explore the libraries of the world, and learn all the secrets of nature and the universe。" "All in one lifetime? It's a little ambitious。。。" He chuckled。 "Who can say? It could be that one life is just enough。" 。。。more

Boy oh Boy。 I have played Assassin's Creed 1。 And to admit that we love Ezio, Altair was the one who was not getting the credit he deserved。 Infact in the whole creed i think he is the smartest one(assassin)。 He was the one who wrote the codex。Even if i feel like Ezio's story was sad。 I also felt the pain with altair in his story。 He was a character who have scarifised more in my opinion than anyone。 Sometimes i feel like Ezio's story was like he was driving away and he had no other choices。 But Boy oh Boy。 I have played Assassin's Creed 1。 And to admit that we love Ezio, Altair was the one who was not getting the credit he deserved。 Infact in the whole creed i think he is the smartest one(assassin)。 He was the one who wrote the codex。Even if i feel like Ezio's story was sad。 I also felt the pain with altair in his story。 He was a character who have scarifised more in my opinion than anyone。 Sometimes i feel like Ezio's story was like he was driving away and he had no other choices。 But with Altair it was different。 I know he is(was) an arrogant piece of sh*t but whatever i loved him。 This book was a rollercoster for me。 At somepoint i was so driven away in the story。。。 I cannot express it。 In the actual game Abbas was not that fully explained but in the book his arc was frickin' legendary。 I mean Oliver Bowden is a master writer 。。。more

A really excellent novelisation of the original video game which fills in some of the gaps during and after the events of the game。 Many big fans of Assassin's Creed started the series on Assassin's Creed 2 (that's when I started really enjoying it) but neglected to play the first due to it being basically a lesser version of Ezio's first adventure。 This I think would appeal to the people who just want to understand Altair's first adventure leading into a play though or replay of Assassin's Cree A really excellent novelisation of the original video game which fills in some of the gaps during and after the events of the game。 Many big fans of Assassin's Creed started the series on Assassin's Creed 2 (that's when I started really enjoying it) but neglected to play the first due to it being basically a lesser version of Ezio's first adventure。 This I think would appeal to the people who just want to understand Altair's first adventure leading into a play though or replay of Assassin's Creed Revelations。 I find its really much easier to enjoy Altair's character when he isn't voiced by an American and you can imagine a native arabic speaker in your head。 。。。more

Since the respective game doesn't focus much on the story of the protagonist, this book does。 It tells the story of Altaïr during the events of Assassin's Creed 1 in the first half, and what happened to him in the following decades in the second。 I was afraid that the second part would be exhausting, just like the final pages of Brotherhood felt like, but while it did feel stretched-out sometimes (mostly due to the time span it was covering), I really enjoyed it and it added a lot to the world a Since the respective game doesn't focus much on the story of the protagonist, this book does。 It tells the story of Altaïr during the events of Assassin's Creed 1 in the first half, and what happened to him in the following decades in the second。 I was afraid that the second part would be exhausting, just like the final pages of Brotherhood felt like, but while it did feel stretched-out sometimes (mostly due to the time span it was covering), I really enjoyed it and it added a lot to the world and its characters。 One thing that bothered me was the motive for Abbas' hatred against Altaïr because I don't think it's realistic for someone to hold on to something like that from childhood until one's eighties。 。。。more
